For many years the Cultural Affairs Committee has provided a grant to the Richey Suncoast Theatre in historic New Port Richey for their annual Children’s Summer Workshop.
This grant allows 10 children each summer to participate who otherwise would not be able to. The best part? The kids never know which of them are recipients of the grant–only their parents know. This allows each child to attend the workshop without any concerns about socio-economic status.
Charlie & Marie Skelton and other volunteers work tirelessly with these kids every summer to teach them all aspects of conceiving, producing and directing a live theatre production.
Each child participates in every aspect from set & costume design, screen play writing, directing, music direction, and producing to acting, singing and dancing. When they leave this intensive workshop they have the experience they need to step into any real-world theatre production and become a valuable member of the team.
The City of New Port Richey and the volunteer members of the Cultural Affairs Advisory Committee are proud to provide this much needed cultural education for our community members.
The Richey Suncoast Theatre presents live theatre performances, live music performances and film festival screenings.
